Historic Travellers Rest Historic House Museum

Historic Travellers Rest Historic House Museum

You may have heard of the Travellers Rest Historic House Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. This Tennessee attraction is a must-see when you are in Nashville. Known as Golgotha, this site was originally owned by John Overton in 1796, and was worked by enslaved Black people. Its history is fascinating. The museum's first floor showcases some of the slave quarters. It is located at 636 Farrell Pkwy, Nashville, TN 37220.

While the historic house was once the home of a prominent judge and his wife, the current structure is a reconstructed version of the 1800s mansion. Its restoration is based on an architectural historian's original plan. Visitors can tour the house and the grounds, which include a museum gift shop and reproduction of an 1830s corn-crib barn. The property also features a small formal garden with medicinal herbs and native plants. The Education Center uses the garden for educational programs.

The plantation was built just a few years after Tennessee became a state. It served both sides during the Civil War. General Hood used it as his headquarters just before the Battle of Nashville. A peach orchard on the property was destroyed. Today, the plantation serves as a Civil War education center and wedding venue. You can also participate in workshops to learn about 19th-century culture.

A great place to also visit is here.

You can also explore the Cheekwood Sculpture Trail, which features installations designed with a sense of whimsy. Sculpture installations include "The Glass Bridge for Nashville." Other gardens feature diverse garden designs and a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. You can even take a flight over the beautiful grounds for some breathtaking vistas.
