If you are planning a vacation to Franklin, Tennessee, you will want to consider spending time at the historic Carnton Plantation. It is located at 1345 Eastern Flank Cir, Franklin, TN 37064. Built in 1826 by Randal McGavock, this plantation was home to the McGavock family. This property sits on over 1,400 acres (6 km2), which was once used to grow corn, oats, and wheat. Later, the McGavock family raised livestock, as well as thoroughbred horses. More information.

If you're looking for a history lesson, consider going on a tour of the Carnton House. This Civil War-era house served as a hospital during the Battle of Franklin, and my guide pointed out the blood stains throughout the house. He also talked about slavery, which is not a topic you typically find when touring Civil War-era properties. While this tour was informative and fascinating, it was a great way to spend an afternoon in Franklin.

You can also take a Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the house, which allows you to see parts of the house that are not included in the Classic House Tour. The tour begins with the main living spaces and then moves to the basement and third floor. The tour ends on the back balcony. The tour lasts 90 minutes. It is not recommended for children younger than 10 years old. It is also closed on Christmas Eve, Easter, Thanksgiving, and New Year's Day.

The McGavock family owned the plantation until 1911, when the widow sold it to Dr. W. D. Sugg. He donated the land to the Carnton Association in 1977. The association has played a critical role in maintaining and restoring the plantation since then. Through tours, memberships, and special events, you can support this historic site. Consider donating to the Carnton Association to help preserve its legacy.

Yorktown/Carnton TN real estate consists primarily of medium-sized and large homes. Apartments and high-rise apartment buildings are also present. A majority of the real estate in the neighborhood is owner-occupied. Many of the homes and residences in the neighborhood were built between the 1970s and 2000. The vacancy rate of homes in Carnton and Yorktown is below the national average of 95.1%. That means there is a lack of available rental properties in the neighborhood.
